From 1 January till June 30, 2015, Latvia was the country holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The presidency rotates among the member states every half a year. The presiding member state assumes responsibility for the work of the Council of the European Union and defines the issues to be taken forward during the next six month period.
Involvement, growth and sustainability were three main principles in the programme of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The Latvian Presidency focused on three overarching priorities:
