On Friday, 30 August, Minister of Smart Administration and Regional Development Inga Bērziņa will participate in the Nordic-Baltic High Level Forum on Artificial Intelligence in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Forum will include joint discussions with the Ministers of Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Åland and Lithuania on a common Nordic-Baltic vision and cooperation for the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Minister Inga Bērziņa will take part in a panel discussion highlighting the need for cooperation in the implementation of AI across sectors, as well as for a common understanding of the AI framework and its application, while also supporting the strengthening of regional cooperation on AI, as has been successfully done so far in the areas of trusted electronic identity and 5G technology deployment. Such cooperation will bring benefits in policy development, knowledge sharing and cooperation between public administrations as well as industry players, thus fostering innovation and technological development in the region. The Minister will also underline that Latvia has a particular interest in using the MI opportunities to strengthen national and regional security in cyberspace, to ensure reliability in the information space.

In addition, a thematic discussion is planned to prepare proposals for cooperation aimed at strengthening policy development, knowledge exchange and cross-sectoral partnerships in the Nordic region. The proposals are to be integrated into the ongoing discussions and cooperation within the Nordic Council of Ministers, thus ensuring the development of long-term cooperation and coordination in the management of MI.

It should be recalled that in 2020 the Nordic and Baltic Ministers adopted a joint declaration with the aim of becoming the most connected region in the world. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to contribute to the development of international standards in all areas, including infrastructure and software, to ensure the safe and reliable use of MI by 2030.

The Nordic-Baltic High Level Forum on AI in Copenhagen is a major event bringing together the region's leading policy makers. The outcomes of the Forum will be reflected at both national and regional level, ensuring that the Nordic and Baltic countries continue to lead the way in the development and deployment of AI technologies.
