Riga, 2 September 2020 - Today, Environment Protection and Regional Development Minister Juris Pūce (AP!) met with Raoul Siemu, Minister of Foreign Trade and Information Technology, to discuss the introduction of cross-border services between Latvia and Estonia, discuss the overall vision of the Baltic States in the field of digital transformation of the European Union (EU), as well as 5G partnership and international Baltic Sea Forum 5G Techritory.
A new development point has now been reached in the successful launch of cross-border cooperation between Latvia and Estonia: at the end of August, the two countries have established the interconnection of national data sharing solutions for both countries1 and have successfully examined it in operation.
Minister Pūce (AP!): "The progress made in mutual data exchange will continue the closer digital integration of the Baltic States, which started with mutual recognition of e-signatures and will now ensure the cross-border availability of an ever wider range of services. . In today's work conversation, the meeting participants outlined a plan to introduce cross-border services available in the public services sector between Latvia and Estonia in order and with a priority. . Latvia has gathered information from national authorities on public services that would require the exchange of data between Latvia and Estonia.
The planned next actions, in cooperation with Estonia, to establish a single list of services and data exchange, where cross-border data exchange between countries should take priority. . It is then planned to set up the Latvian-Estonian Action Groups to implement these data exchanges.
The German Presidency's offer to the Baltic States to present its vision of digital transformation during the informal meeting of European Union Telecommunications Ministers on 15 October was also discussed during the negotiations.
