The aim of the Open Call is to support the remediation of historically contaminated sites with a view to improving the quality of soil, ground, groundwater or surface water, restoring and improving the quality of the environment in and around contaminated sites and to reduce risk to human health and environment.
Only those projects will be supported under the Open Call for the remediation of historically polluted sites where the principle “polluter pays” cannot be applied due to the person responsible for the pollution no longer exists and there is no direct successor of such person and the state or local authorities could not prevent the occurrence of such pollution. Hence support will be provided for the remediation of polluted sites that has developed before the restoration of independence of Republic of Latvia, and in the former military objects until August 1994.
The project applicants can be local government, direct or indirect administration institution, port authority or special economic zone authority, which is responsible for the port.
The total Programme budget available for the implementation of the projects amounts to 11 000 000 euro. The minimum admissible Programme budget per project shall be 1 000 000 euro and the maximum shall be 4 350 000 euro.
The Open Call will be launched on 5th of June 2020 and 6 month will be given for the project application preparation and submission till the 7th of December 2020. It has been envisaged that the implementation of the projects will start in the summer of 2021. The project implementation period may not exceed 30 April 2024.
